Barry C. Melancon is a globally respected accounting leader and governance strategist with more than three decades of executive leadership experience. He currently serves as Chair and Non-Executive Director of the Baker Tilly International Board of Directors, as well as an adviser to Baker Tilly US and Co-Chair of the Board of Baker Tilly UAE. In these roles, he supports strategic growth, governance excellence, and deeper international integration across the network.
Renowned for his leadership in advancing the accounting profession and strengthening public trust in financial reporting, Melancon served for 30 years as President & CEO of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the world's largest professional accounting body, representing more than 650,000 members and students globally. He is also the longest-serving CEO in the history of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).
Throughout his career, Melancon has championed initiatives that have advanced audit quality, transparency, professional standards, and innovation across the global accounting profession. His contributions include the establishment of audit quality centers, advancement of private company reporting standards, expansion of XBRL US reporting frameworks, launch of the computerized CPA examination, founding of CPA.com, and creation of the globally recognised Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.
Melancon has held prominent governance and leadership roles across the global accounting ecosystem, including with the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), Global Accounting Alliance, and Center for Audit Quality. He has also served as a strategic adviser to organizations supporting the accounting profession and contributed to nonprofit and research boards in the United States and internationally. In August 2025, he was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame in recognition of his transformative contribution to the profession.
